Hello - Srila here..

Srila has arrived from Mumbai at last. It's very strange to meet someone who you have had lots of e-mails and phone conversations with. It's nice as we kind of know each other but at the same time we don't, it's very disconcerting.

Suddenly a lot of things become instantly clear about how our onshore-offshore team works and why things haven't always gone as smoothly as perhaps they should. We've always known that Srila speaks English - it's a pre-requisite for working on the team. But we never stopped for a moment to remember that it's actually her second language and so even though her English is extremely good, it's still a second language. Having face to face conversations it's easy to see that there are times when Srila isn't understanding or we are obviously speaking far too quickly for her to keep up. It's great though as meeting her and understanding this means the future will be much easier.

I'm so impressed with Srila, she's just 22 years old and had to fly over here on her own for her first visit to the UK which must have been pretty scary. And she's here to attend some technical training which we are all sitting in on. I find it hard to understand some of it - how about if it was in a different language? Amazing!
