Since we got back from our holiday the weather has been up and down but there's one thing which is constant throughout and that's that Autumn is definitely in the air! Walking to work over the last weeks of August the plants and fields were in an unchanged state of green and now they've changed. The corn has been harvested and the conkers are falling and the leaves are starting to go all colours of brown, red, orange and yellow. It's so beautiful. And the squirrels are no longer lazy, they are running around with their cheeks full!
But not only that, the scent of Autumn is all around. Even when the sun shines and it's warm, there's that nip in the air in the mornings and evenings which says that everything is changing and winter is on it's way. It's kind of reassuring in a way. No matter what changes in the world and what changes in our lives, the earth keeps turning and the seasons keep coming.
People moan about the British weather but I love it. We have four definite seasons and there's a time between each when you feel the weather changing and I love the changing from spring to summer, the promise of long light summer evenings. And I love the changing from summer to winter, the nights drawing in and the promise of cosy nights by the fire at home and wrapped-up freezing cold afternoons at the rugby. Halloween followed by Bonfire Night and then onto Christmas and lots of family time together.
