Well S came through her operation okay and is now recovering quite well. We're hoping she'll be home by the end of the week.
The bad news is that things are never quite as straight forward as you hope they will be and S is sadly still a long way away from being cancer free. The operation went on for a good 7 hours during which time they discovered the cancer had spread through to her heart. They had three wonderful surgeons operating on her trying to get as much of the evil stuff out as possible but they couldn't get it all. I got a call from my brother late that night which nearly broke my heart. I actually thought that S had died as the tones of dread and despair in my brothers voice were so stark and he couldn't get his words out. It was the worst call I've ever taken in my life and was truly a horrible evening.
So we have a big challenge on our hands. S needs to recover from the op and then faces radiotherapy and chemotherapy to shrink what is left of the tumour so that they can operate again to remove what is left.
That's the theory. The odds are scary but all we can do is hope and pray and try to carry on as normal for the two young kiddies who are not really aware of the complexities of their mums illness.
