When Rob and I were out walking in the countryside in
Buckinghamshire/
Northamptonshire a couple of weeks ago, we came across a piece of land which used to be part of a farm right next to the church. It was up for sale. It's a nice sized piece of land with a big old stone barn and various old out-buildings. It's a lovely location though, right in the middle of the village and next to the old church.
When we got home we looked on the web to see what was for sale. It's basically the land, the barns and planning permission to incorporate the old barn into a new barn-conversion house. A beautiful 4-
bedroomed house, already designed by the architect. It is a complete dream. I would love to move to Bucks - it always feels like going home when I go up there. And both Rob and I would love to build our own place. This plot and plan is completely perfect.
Completely perfect apart from one
teensy weensy detail. The price. For the land and planning permission it's over twice the price that we could afford, even if we really stretched ourselves. And that's before you even start clearing the old out-houses and building the new place on and around the barn.
Yeouch! Still it's good to dream :)

This is St. Guthlac's Church - many of my ancestors were christened, married and buried here.
And who wouldn't want to live somewhere where you pop your letters into the wall for the Postie to pick up?!
