This year we went away for a week with Mum and Dad to Bayeux to look around some of the 2nd world war sites and museums and to see the Bayeux tapestry. After leaving Alfie in kennels for the weeks, we took off for a really good week. Bayeux was an old, quaint place with lots of lovely old buildings, shops and restaurant. I love the picture below as it reminds me of the setting for 'Allo, Allo' and I couldn't stop singing the tune every time we walked through.
We visited the invasion beaches and lots of museums as well as seeing the floating harbours left behind from the war.
It's hard to imagine the destruction and horrors that took place along the coast line in Normandy as it's so peaceful and lovely now. The bunkers and bits left behind tell their own story though.
But so inspiring are the churches, grave-yards and memorials which remember all those who died in circumstances which we can hardly imagine or dream about. Brave, brave soldiers.
