Shoots
The garden is a bit of a mess at the moment, it's kind of dormant but wet and muddy and still in winter mode. Although the bulbs have started to shoot it's all very brown and not so green and all rather dead looking. So imagine my excitement when I spotted something emerging from the earth in one of my pots this week. The top of the earth is rather messy with moss and fallen leaves and junk from the winter but there is life underneath - the red shoots of rhubarb!!! These were new crowns last spring which I planted out and we didn't pick any of the plant last year to give it strength in its first year of growth. And look what's happened - it's growing!! It's so exciting! The days are getting longer, the earth's temperature is rising and spring is sprouting.
