Good Times

We had such a fabulous time last week. It was such good fun to just be in the car with the map, a Rough Guide to England and a Good Pub Guide and to just drive.

We walked the fields where the Battle of Naseby took place, watched the locks on the canal, explored Stratford-Upon-Avon and went down the Avon in a rowing boat. We visited Much Wenlock and saw the ruins of the Abbey before going onto Ironbridge. We stayed in Ashbourne in Derbyshire and went to Alton Towers for the day.

We found a beautiful B&B in Buxton and so stayed two nights which meant we could do lots of walking around the town and on the Dales. We went to Bakewell and ate original Bakewell Pudding and we went to Eyam, the Plague village and visited the museum and the old cottages. It was beautiful up there. We then came home via Sherwood Forest and Stamford in Lincolnshire. We were lucky enough to survive the whole week without encountering a drop of rain - which in England is pretty good going!

And the Good Pub Guide didn't let us down once so every lunchtime we found a country pub near to where we were which served fantastic food. Bliss!

My lovely little car waiting for us
as we walked the fields of the
Battle of Naseby in Northamptonshire.
Eating ice-cream and watching barges go through the locks in Worcestershire.
Rowing down the river at
Stratford-Upon-Avon in Warwickshire.
The Abbey ruins at Much Wenlock in Shropshire.
Ironbridge in Shropshire

Riding the roller-coasters at Alton Towers in Staffordshire. Walking the Dales in Derbyshire. Looking at beautiful churches, villages and countryside.
And staying in wonderful B&B's..
And finishing up with a walk around Sherwood Forest
in Nottinghamshire where we heard our first ever cuckoo!
Good Times!
